In classroom, tests may change, but high expectations must continue

New Mexico Teacher Champion, Arcelia “Liz” Guillermo has some concerns about Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s recent decision to eliminate PARCC. As a teacher with over 20 years of classroom experience, she’s “learned to roll with the punches” but, recognizes this is a critical period for the state to “build on the foundation of high academic standards.” Liz presents a call-to-action to her state policymakers and education leaders, urging them “to keep high standards and stability for students as their top priorities.” Additionally, she encourages state and local education leaders to think about how the new assessment will be implemented as well as provide teachers with the appropriate time and training to adjust to the new curricula.
