Teachers Weigh in on Common Core

Elementary teachers generally have a positive view of high, comparable standards, a study by the Center on Education Policy finds. Twenty-six teachers from five districts in four states applauded the rigor of the Common Core State Standards, and its emphasis on “higher-order thinking and reasoning skills,” and the “thread of consistency.” Most say autonomy over their classrooms has remained the same or increased. Teachers should be involved in policymaking decisions, the report notes, and states and districts should continue to focus on providing support to educators.
