Trying to sort out Tennessee’s new math standards? These educators are doing it for you.October 19, 2016
To help parents and fellow teachers understand Tennessee’s education standards and develop materials aligned to them, David Williams, a Nashville educator, organized the Mid-Cumberland Math Consortium. The group offers guides to help navigate the goals set for each grade in order to help focus instructional materials. Tennessee tailored its education standards, but continues to hold expectations high. As Williams points out, it is important that teachers have the professional development support to teach to higher standards. “It’s a benefit to all of us, that we can have each other’s insights,” explains one member.
