Common Core Defenders Call Out Misconceptions

As the Michigan legislature considers whether or not to walk away from using high, comparable standards, supporters of high standards are speaking out against such a move and clarifying the misconceptions about Common Core State Standards. Among those who support the current standards is the Michigan Parent Teachers Association, who recently offered testimony against the repeal legislation. “Our teachers and school leaders agree that these standards are good for our students, and they want to continue the work they have started to teach our children using these standards,” the group said. “To ask them to once again change standards, curricula and assessment methodology shows disrespect for educators and school administrators across the state.” Several other educators and community leaders also offered their opposition to abandoning the high standards.
