Famous Structures Help 3rd Graders Learn About Math, More

The Jersey Journal

The school project “allowed [students] to apply the concepts they learned in Math to other subject areas, and the real world,” said third-grade teacher Ms. Evangelista. “These projects helped enrich my students’ understanding of numeration, using place value to add and subtract, and much more.”  Real-world applications and cross-disciplinary approaches like this are a part of New Jersey’s academic standards, and are having positive results. New Jersey joined more than 30 states this year that have seen a marked increase in third-grade math achievement.
