High Academic Standards Help All Student Succeed

Michigan is in the midst of a major debate on whether to keep its high, consistent standards or do away with them, putting students, parents, and teachers at an incredible disadvantage. Cheryl Corpus, an educator and instructional coach to other teachers, believes Michigan needs more time using its current standards before dismantling them. “Michigan’s high academic standards are one way we show our students that we value them and believe they can succeed,” she said in a piece featured in The Rapidian. “The standards are challenging and ask students to apply their knowledge and skills in new ways. If students meet the standards, they’ll be more prepared to succeed in college, careers, and the community,” she added.
