Teacher Voice is Essential to Improving Schools in Tennessee

Tennessee educators Soya Moore and Jessica Hurtley write that the Every Student Succeeds Act is “a window of opportunity for teachers to get in on policy discussion and the law’s implementation planning.” The authors encourage teachers to engage policymakers, as well as fellow teachers and community members, to ensure fair assessments are aligned to high standards. “Whether states can make good use of the new law without losing sight of improving achievement and serving high-risk students will depend upon teachers advocating for what works in the classroom.”
