Three Maine Teachers of the Year encourage their fellow Mainers to vote in favor of passing Question 2, which will increase funding for public schools with a 3 percent tax on annual income over $200,000. Classroom teachers are “the most influential school-related factor in building student achievement,” they argue, and recent innovations in education, like the implementation of high academic standards and proficiency-based education ensure that students are prepared for college and career. Extra funding could provide for extended learning time and restore funding for other programs that have been cut. Voting yes on Question 2, they conclude, is about “giving every child a chance to succeed regardless of where they live.”
