Teachers Say They Know More About the Common Core, but Challenges Linger

Most teachers are now familiar with high, comparable education standards, but many still feel underprepared to teach to them, according to the results of a nationwide poll by Education Week. Thirty-nine percent of teachers said they felt “very prepared” to teach to higher standards, up 20 points from 2012. But about 80 percent don’t believe their professional development is high-quality, and many parents are still unfamiliar with the new learning goals. Less than one in five teachers strongly agreed that their curricular materials are aligned to higher standards. “It shows how far we have to go in making sure teachers really do have access to high-quality material,” says Achieve’s Chief Operating Officer Sandy Boyd.
