Norwood teacher starts bead business to give second-graders a jump-start in basic economicsJuly 8, 2016
Stephanie Brown, second grade teacher at Sharpsburg Elementary School in Norwood, OH, has brought her classroom to life through the Ohio Learning Standards. Students learned about currency, as required by the state’s learning expectations, but also had the opportunity to learn about business (and have fun while doing it!). With their teacher, students created Bead Buddies and began selling beaded bracelets during recess. Skills like these have a strong correlation not only to college and career readiness, but also financial literacy.
